Well, this is the first of many blogs to come. Let me say that yes, I am a Detroit Red Wings fan. Go ahead, make a derogatory comment or let out a big sigh. Done? Good, cause I don't care. I did not just jump on that wagon, been a fan since 93'. I am not going to sit here and say that they are the best and all of the other teams suck, but I will give you my honest opinion. First, I'm glad that Draper retired. It was overdue. He always looked like he was so damn busy out on the ice but rarely produced. He was, and I stress was, a good face off guy and decent on the PK. But like Maltby before him, it was just time to go. How many times did I hear myself yelling at the TV, hit someone or do something Draper. GEEZ! Nice guy but enjoy your retirement. I always seem to have the same concerns every season for the Wings; scoring and toughness. Apparently Holland doesn't share my same concern. I really feel that they need a true power forward. Someone with some grit that can toss in around 20-30 goals and maybe stir it up out there. Who's the perfect fit? I don't know at this point but will certainly be pondering throughout the season. Franzen is about as close to this as we've got. I know we have arguably the two best two way players in the game with Datsyuk and Zetterberg, but I feel like they could always use some more scoring. I wasn't thrilled with what they did in the off season but I can't honestly say that there were any free agents out there that were too impressive. Brad Richards was the biggest free agent on the market? He should thank his lucky stars that he is playing in today's NHL because he doesn't deserve half of what he is getting in New York. Let's all just wait and see how many games he misses due to injury. The Wings need to dump Hudler at the next bus stop. Too small and not nearly worth what he's getting paid. Trade and trade fast Kenny, 4th round draft pick in 2099 sounds good to me. Commodore was an interesting pick up. At first I questioned why the hell they even bothered, but the more I thought about it he is big and can play with an edge. This guy will give Stuart some help in the gritty department if he wants to come back for another year or so. Ian White will have a little more pressure on him since he is the one to "replace" Rafalski and his point production. Not as good with the passing but probably tougher to play against defensively than Rafalski was. So much to talk about and so little time. Not really just getting tired of typing. This blog is not strictly about the Wings. I will be blogging about what I feel or what I am thinking about concerning hockey on any given day. Please feel free to comment as it will make for some interesting conversations. But just remember that I am always going to be right because I know better than you.
